5 things to do in your spare time at uni:

As I'm writing this I'm sat in my flat studying shorthand, all fun and games but after a while I get bored. Especially on a Monday or Wednesday when I'm either not in lectures or finish early. I've watched about three and a half seasons of Jane the Virgin on Netflix and the whole season of Gossip Girl in my spare time so far...

SO, here are five things to do when your flat becomes boring or lonely. 

                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

Bake some favourite home treats

                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

One thing I absolutely love to do in my spare time is to get in the kitchen and bake some cakes, at home it was a challenge to bake because of making a mess in my mum's kitchen hahah. But uni is completely different, you're your own boss :) 

You could make the best chocolate chip cookies or of course every British person's fave... the Sunday dinner! Recently I made candy cane cupcakes which not only tasted amazing but looked pretty good too, keep your eyes peeled they will be uploaded soon, in time for Christmas.

Hit the town

                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

This is the perfect time to explore the new place you're living. Discover new cafes, bars and shops. Preston has the best independent stores like Hollywood Exports and RetrogueVintage Clothing. Time exploring gives you the opportunity to get arty shots on your camera and the best instagram spots to shoot. 

Absolutely love waking up and just heading out, with no plans but to explore.

My idea of something to do is getting some popcorn, making a hot chocolate and chilling in bed watching a Christmas classic (Love Actually) or a series, my current fave is Jane the Virgin or Haunting of Hill House. It's the perfect opportunity to invite your uni friends over and all picking something to watch together. You could even have tea with them first and make it a full night of fun.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

Go to the gym

                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

I mean, this isn't exactly the most exciting thing to do in your spare time. But just having that feeling of self accomplishment and feeling like you have made the most of your spare time by getting fit and feeling so good about yourself is really worth it. After I've been to the gym I feel so healthy and refreshed. 

You could even start a gym class such as Zumba, then you have a specific time to be out of the flat each week and will get you doing activities so you don't feel like you have to stay inside all day.
Or you could always go to Frankie and Benny's and eat this beautiful garlic bread... the choice is yours!

                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

Shopping

                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

Whilst at uni, you have to be independent. You go out and buy all your own clothes, your own food shop and even things you are not used to paying for. When you have that spare time it is such a good time to have a trip to Aldi or Tesco. They're the local places in Preston for me, Asda is a bus ride away hahaha.

Even to just go out with your friends, spending time with people makes your levels of happiness increase dramatically. I tend to go out for a coffee or a hot chocolate with my friends and we often get a Krispy Kreme Donut too!

Anyway, I hope these helped. Uni can be difficult because you're away from home living in a flat with new people, but just come out of your shell and you will have the best time.
